Located on the north bank of the Fox River, the former Fox River Mills is an aggregation of three old paper mills. On the National Register of Historic Places, the brick buildings date from 1883 through 1915. Two of the buildings served as paper converting plants as late as 1985 and are located just two blocks from College Avenue, a short walk to shopping, the Performing Art Center, fine dining, churches, the library, and Lawrence University.

“Living at the Mills feels like “Home”. I have the very best of downtown living with shops, restaurants, and the Y. Neighbors are friendly, helpful, and sociable without being intrusive. Both patios are beautiful, and the Community Room is perfect for gatherings small or large.”

“When my husband and I moved here over Labor Day 1990, we were excited about the adventures we’d be having as the first tenants in the beautiful Historic Fox River Mills! We have delighted in our many years of living here, and are continuously grateful for the ambience and the friends we’ve made here over the years. The river setting is peaceful and beautiful, and management is kind and helpful. There are endless nooks and crannies to enjoy and the location is perfect, near downtown, Lawrence, the Y, library, and lots of great stores and restaurants. There are beautiful places to walk along the river, as well as courtyards and community room for relaxation. We have loved calling this place home!”

“Over a year ago, my husband and I decided to sell our house and downsize. We needed to find a new place to call home and found the Historic Fox River Mills. We were immediately drawn to the uniqueness of the various townhomes and apartments. Additionally, we were impressed with the cleanliness, safety, and charm of this riverfront property. The HRFM management team and staff are friendly, responsive, and always willing to listen to improvement ideas.”
